Does Your Food Make You Happy?

Some people do light therapy to get out of a funk. I go grocery shopping. Shopping for our weekly fruits and vegetables makes me so happy. My favorite part is when I am loading all the different colored foods on to the conveyor belt and it looks like a rainbow exploded. It makes me feel giddy and joyous and I can't stop staring at how beautiful it all is.

Does anyone else feel this way?

Tonight, a man in front of me at the store stopped to talk about the variety of food that I was buying. He wanted to know what the Kohlrabi was and how to make it then he went back to buy some. And I noticed that he bought more kale and beets too. The cashier asked me some questions about swiss chard and kale and we talked about the book In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan. I started the book but haven't gotten very far along. It's interesting and I would love to hear vegans' thoughts about it.

But, back to my gorgeous food.

Here are my vegetables that I bought for the week. I will also go out and buy a pound or two of organic baby spinach. At home we have avocados, ginger, carrots, and tomatoes to add to the mix but I wanted to capture just what I had bough tonight. We plan on making pizza, sushi bowls, cold oriental noodles, kidney bean and kale salad, zucchini lemon quinoa, persian salad in pita, and tuscan bread salad for lunch/dinner this week. You can't really tell but there are 3 bunches of kale, 2 heads of Romaine lettuce, Red Lead lettuce, 3 bunches of scallions, 4 cucumbers, and 2 zucchini.

A picture of our fruit. I failed to buy some apples so I will have to go out and get some more of those. I will be making vegan Mango Lasi's from the The Vegan Table. We run out of fruit pretty quickly since Keller eats an entire box of raspberries in one sitting if we have our backs turned.

This is a picture of everything else that I bought. I would normally cook my own beans but it's supposed to be hot this week and since we don't have AC and our house is so small it gets way too hot for me, so canned it is. Steve also has some tofu in the fridge and we have bread and almond butter for sandwiches. Oh, I also bought Steve a bag of cereal which he eats in the morning. Cereal also means that we have a box of soy milk in the fridge which we bought from Costco last week.

Our food should make us happy and we should enjoy eating it. I hope that other's get as much pleasure from their food as we do.

Cool! Glad to know there are others out there that feel happy about their food.
